Stateroom essentials

Updated: Mar 8, 2020

Even though you are very rarely in your stateroom, here are my suggestions of things to bring/buy with you to make your vacation more enjoyable. Please comment if there's something you can't live without in your stateroom! Check out my blog on Packing essentials too!

I have listed items I feel essential for a relaxing and wonderful vacation. They are suggestions and you may have other must haves I have not listed. Where possible, I have linked to the item I have or similar. I do not make anything for these links and they are just a suggestion or an example of the item.

Magnets

Cruise ship walls are metal which opens them up to a world of possibilities! Magnetic hooks to hang clothes for example, magnets to attach notes or the daily newsletter to the wall so you know where it is. Endless uses for the humble magnet.

Air Freshener

Cabin bathrooms are small, not that well ventilated and tend to not have the most pleasant of odors. Add to that eating a lot of rich food and, well you get my drift, no need to be any less delicate than that!

Door Decoration

A must for a family cruising with children. All the corridors and doors look exactly the same, so to help children (and lets be honest, some adults) more easily identify their room, decorating with pictures or messages is a fun way to to it.

Power Strip

In the modern high tech day and age is impossible to live without whole mass of power outlets. Unfortunately staterooms do not come with an abundance of them so its always good to bring along a power strip. Cruise lines do not allow power strips with a surge protector is make sure it is cruise ship approved. Don't forget to pack phone chargers, tablet chargers, camera battery chargers and any other electronic device charger you need.

Laundry Bag

A good way of saving room in your bags is to only bring half of what you'll wear and then do laundry. Obviously not very many people want to do laundry on vacation but either way you'll need somewhere to put your dirty laundry until washday or you leave.

Drinks

Most staterooms have mini fridges and Princess and others allow you to order water, soda, beer and some other beverages before boarding. This is normally cheaper than paying for it from a bar and there is no gratuity tacked on. Ideal for a sundowner on the balcony or bring a yeti and take a water/soda to the pool. Princess allows you to bring soda and a bottle of wine per adult on board so don't forget a corkscrew and bottle stopper!
